‘Divine Rivals’ Adaptation Moving Forward At Paramount
Hello, Romantasy fans!
Amid the ACOTAR series adaptation falling through and Rebecca Yarros’ Empyrean series still in pre-production, Paramount has acquired the rights to the Letters of Enchantment Romantasy series Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross.
In February of last year, MBC chose Divine Rivals as the book of the month and followed up in May with Ruthless Vows by Rebecca Ross. Maude Garrett even interviewed Rebecca Ross for our book club.
We can remain optimistic because Sofia Alvarez, best known for adapting To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before novels for Netflix, is attached to the project.
She will write the script and give us all the lovely romantic moments between Iris and Roman that made us fall in love with our frenemy journalists.
Alvarez perfectly adapted Jenny Han’s TATBILB novels to give us two of the best romance films on the platform.
“The story is set in the shadow of an ancient war between dueling gods and tells of a pair of young rival journalists that fall in love while writing each other anonymous letters on an enchanted typewriter. The story has influences of You’ve Got Mail, World War One, and magic. ”
One thing BookTok has done is give a platform to new authors, and Romantasy has been a genre that has soared. Rebecca Ross took BookTok by storm with her Letters of Enchantment duology. The series has spent more than 125 weeks on The New York Times bestsellers list and was a Goodreads Choice Awards winner.
Rebecca Ross isn’t done with Roman Kitt and Iris Winnow, as she has the prequel, Wild Reverence, ready to be published on September 2nd of this year. After interviewing Ross, she feels a deep connection to these characters, so it’s only natural that she will be working as executive producer on the project.

DIVINE RIVALS FANCAST
Immediately after the news broke, fans of the series began to fancast who would suit Iris Winnow and Roman Kitt for the film adaptation. There was another book adaptation over at Netflix that was cancelled after one season, called Lockwood and Co.
Everyone loved Ruby Stokes and Cameron Chapman together, and frankly, they are perfect for the roles of Winnow and Kitt. Let me know what you think about the fancast in the comments below!
