If You Like Bury Our Bones In The Midnight Soil Add These To Your TBR
Our BOOK OF THE MONTH for June is Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.E. Schwab.
Here at MBC, we love our fantasy novels, and we are continuously on the lookout for new books to add to our future book club discussions.
Even though Maude Garrett doesn’t love horror, if there are some fantasy elements or supernatural elements tied in, you bet it’ll be on her list!
Join our live book chat on Twitch to discuss Schwab’s new release together!
Make sure to tune in on July 19th, as Maude has a Q&A with Schwab herself.

If You Like Matchmaking Add These To Your TBR
There are plenty of romantic tropes we’ve grown to love, but not many people explore the world of matchmaking. Modern dating has changed drastically, and it’s up to authors to create romantic stories for us to fantasize about.
In Celine Song’s sophomore feature, Materialists, she returns to the origin of what it means to be a partner. Simplicity was the focus for Song on telling this modern romantic drama.

If You Like ‘Star Wars: Thrawn Ascendancy Chaos Rising’, Add These To Your TBR
Maude Garrett is a massive Star Wars fan and has had the Thrawn Ascendancy trilogy on her TBR for a while. The Star Wars franchise has grown immensely because of the sequel films and the television series.
Fortunately, fans have become great authors and created an extension of the universe through their novels. Each author has given secondary characters incredible depth, making fans love these characters even more than before. There’s more Star Wars lore for everyone to appreciate.

Book Review: ‘A Court of Wings and Ruin’ by Sarah J. Maas
Last October, we read the second novel in the ACOTAR series, A Court of Mist and Fury. For April, we wanted to continue in the world of fairies with A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas.
Our Discord has a Sarah J. Maas and ACOTAR channel where the MBC community has lively discussions. Come join our live book chat on Twitch so we can all gush about this series together.
The best part of the world-building in Sarah J. Maas’ novels is the deep connection to the characters that they begin to feel like family. Returning to her world is returning to familiarity and comfort.
Here is my review of Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas! Let me know how you feel in the comments below.

If You Like ‘The Last Of Us’ Add These To Your TBR
One video game adaptation that has taken the world by storm is The Last of Us. Season two premiered last week, and fans of the game know exactly where it’s headed. However, the element of surprise is still present in many non-gamer audiences.
Maude Garrett is a huge gamer who attempted to play The Last of Us, but our Boss Reader is also not the biggest horror fan.
If you love The Last of Us and are excited to watch the rest of season two, check out the post-apocalyptic novels you should add to your TBR!

If You Like ‘Mickey 7’ Add These to Your TBR
Our little fantasy/sci-fi book club always looks for book adaptations of our favourite novels.
Science fiction is imaginative and often explores the universe through a humanistic lens. It expands our minds and asks relevant existential questions many don’t know how to answer. At the very least, sci-fi allows us to reconnect with the world and our role here on Earth.
The newest book adaptation is Mickey 17, directed by Bong Joon Ho (Okja, Parasite), who has taken the concept from Edward Ashton’s novel and fused it with his visionary creativity.
Would you want multiple versions of yourself to be regenerated after you die? Would you contemplate how the memories would translate from one version to another?
Ashton raises these questions in Mickey 7 and Antimatter Blues. He tackles how invaluable and disposable people may feel, especially when working with corporations that don’t care about their employees.

Book Review: ‘‘Onyx Storm’ by Rebecca Yarros
February is the month of love, so naturally we had to fit in a Romantasy series for our book club! Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros was out BONUS BOOK of the month.
Rebecca Yarros surprised everyone with the release of Onyx Storm and January 21st, 2025 couldn’t come fast enough!
Many have said the same thing about the third installment. It was hard to get into at first. It became a fast-paced adventure once Violet and her squad searched the Isles for irids.
